Brian McIntosh,

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Northstar

Hi, I’m Brian McIntosh — a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CADC) with over 17 years of experience helping individuals and families navigate addiction and mental health challenges.

I earned my master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, along with a specialty certificate in Evidence-Based Mental Health Practices with Children and Families. I work with clients of all ages, gender identities, and sexual orientations, because I truly want to help everyone! As someone who's had years of his own therapy, I know how tough it can be in sessions, so I’m committed to creating a space where everyone feels seen, heard, respected, and protected.

Over the years, I’ve received treatment and worked in a wide range of settings, including school systems, drug and alcohol rehabs, inpatient and outpatient hospitals, and the VA, to learn all I can about my own issues, various clients' experiences, and this field. All this exposure has sharpened my skills and deepened my understanding of how unique our mental health and recovery journeys can be. I can't wait to help you with yours!

I specialize in Humanistic Therapy, a compassionate, person-centered approach that sees you as a whole person — past and present, relationships and roles, environment and emotions. Together, we’ll explore how these interconnected parts shape your experience and build on your strengths to support positive, lasting growth. Being multi-faceted and having been through a lot is a strength: Diamonds with the most facets shine the brightest!

Favored methods for mental health and addiction treatments are:
